Community Technology Engagement Intern
Temporary, Full-time, Youth Position
Cumberland Public Libraries
(35- 37.5 hours per week—evening and weekend hours required)

Location: Four Fathers Memorial Library (Amherst, NS) – some travel required

Position Scope
Reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Librarian, the Community Technology Engagement Intern will be working out of the Four Fathers Memorial Library and travelling throughout Cumberland County. The Community Technology Engagement Intern will also work closely with the Systems Manager of the Cumberland Public Libraries.

Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to)
• Help people with new and emerging technologies through mentoring
• Assist and support community technical projects
• Working with all age sectors within the community to reach individual technical goals
• Provide assistance to community members with technology
• Become familiar with supporting technology needs via phone

Eligibility Requirements
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the internship.
• Have recently (within 2 years prior to the start of their internship) completed post-secondary studies. Graduates of degree or diploma programs from universities, colleges, post-secondary schools of technology, postsecondary institutes and CEGEP.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status.
• Not in receipt of Employment Insurance during their internship.
• Self-assess as underemployed, meaning they are employed below their level of education and/or hold part-time employments.
• Has not previously participated in a YES Career Focus internship.

The Community Technology Engagement Intern will at the end of the term:
• Gain further knowledge in technical support in a community setting
• Be able to create and facilitate teaching materials for all ages
• Gain teaching skills through teaching public of all ages
• Will obtain a Digital Skills for Libraries certificate but taking a online program through The Education Institute

$12.22 per hour

Anticipated start date: Friday, January 4, 2019
End date: Friday, August 30, 2019
